Ferrari LaFerrari Overview
Design and Exterior
The top-most priority for the engineers at Ferrari was to keep the design of this hypercar aerodynamically efficient. An in-house team headed by Flavio Manzoni were given the charge to handle the styling of the Ferrari Laferrari. It has a sharp downward-sloping nose and a very low bonnet that highlights its wheel arches. The addition of sculpted design elements on the doors, bonnet, & tail section gives this hypercar an aggressive stance. The tail section of the LaFerrari is as extreme as its overall design. Two deep grooves originate from the surfaces over the wheel arches and they help in channelling the hot air from the engine bay. It also gets a large spoiler that deploys automatically and its lower tail section features a diffuser with movable flaps.
Engine and Gearbox
The Hy-Kers hybrid system of the Ferrari LaFerrari consists of a 65-degree 6.3L V12 IC engine and an electric motor. The V12 alone churns out 788 hp power at 9,000 rpm and 700 Nm torque at 6,750 rpm. While the electric motor on this hypercar generates 162 hp power. The combined hybrid system has a maximum power output of 950 hp and maximum torque output of more than 900 Nm. It gets a 7-speed dual-clutch automated manual transmission that is coupled with an electric motor that replaces the traditional alternator. The electric motor on the Ferrari LaFerrari is designed using high-specific power density technology that helped in reducing weight & size. Its engine runs on a very high compression ratio of 13.5:1 which enables maximum combustion chamber efficiency.
Performance, Top Speed, and Mileage
The Ferrari LaFerrari performance figures are nothing but praiseworthy and it has also managed to slash more than 5 seconds off Enzo’s lap record on the Fiorano circuit. This hypercar is capable of hitting a top speed of more than 350 kmph. It accelerates from zero to 100 kmph in just 2.9 seconds which is just 100 milliseconds slower than the Hennessey Venom GT. The instantaneous torque from the electric motor is employed at lower revs while the torque produced from the V12 is optimised at higher revs. The HY-KERS system on the Ferrari LaFerrari keeps the revs up to ensure quick and more precise response times at the gas pedal. This hypercar is capable of breaching the 200 kmph mark in less than 7 seconds while it touches the 300 kmph mark in just 15 seconds.
Chassis, Suspension, and Brakes
It is based on a carbon fibre tub chassis that is completely built in-house in Maranello using Scuderia’s materials and production processes. Four different types of carbon fibre are used to construct the body of the Ferrari LaFerrari to meet the functional requirements. For underbody construction, Ferrari has used carbon fibre with Kevlar which protects the structure from damage. It is equipped with a double-wishbone front suspension and a multi-link rear suspension. The Ferrari LaFerrari is equipped with 398 mm disc brakes on the front wheels and 380 mm disc brakes on the rear wheel. It gets all-new lightweight callipers that are crafted to boost cooling and enhance braking performance.
Dimensions
The Ferrari LaFerrari has a wheelbase of 2,650 mm and the cabin and the engine compartment is contained within the wheelbase. This contained design layout helps it achieve the most efficient weight distribution which further enhances its performance. It measures 4,702 mm in total length while its total width is 1,992 mm. This hypercar has a dry weight of a mere 1,280 kg which allows it to achieve an astonishing power-to-weight ratio. The Ferrari LaFerrai rides on 19-Inch forged aluminium wheels at the front and 20-inch forged aluminium wheels at the rear. To support its beastly performance, Ferrari has equipped it with special 265/30-19 Pirelli P-Zeros tyres up front and 345/30-20 tyres on the rear.
Features
This hypercar is also equipped with high-end electronics that allow the driver to push further. The Ferrari LaFerrari F1 derived electronic traction control system that is integrated with its hybrid system. The EF1 traction control system onboard maintains maximum traction by continuously monitoring and distributing torque to the wheels with the help of an electronic differential. The electronic stability control and active aero work together to keep this beast grounded. Ferrari LaFerrari also comes with a high-performance anti-lock braking system and an electronic brake balance distribution system. Inside the cabin, the driver is greeted with a squared steering wheel and a fully reconfigurable digital instrument panel.
Ferrari LaFerrari Price in India and Launch Date
The production of this hypercar for the hardtop was limited to only 500 units and all of them are already sold out. Ferrari later also introduced the Aperta variant with an open-top and its production was also limited to only 210 pieces.
