Yamaha XJR400 Overview

The XJR400 comes with the same muscular design with minimal body panels as you would see on the other road sports bike from the 90s. The first model of this street bike is available in three beautiful colour options, red, black, and blue. It is built upon a steel pipe frame that offers the right amount of stiffness and response. It features a telescopic fork at the front, while it is fitted with dual Ohlins shock absorbers with adjustable preload at the rear end. The Yamaha XJR400 is offered with dual front disc brakes with Brembo callipers and a single rear disc brake with a 1-piston calliper. Its kerb weight is 178 kg and it offers an easy-to-access seat height of 780 mm.

A 399cc in-line 4-cylinder, 4-stroke, DOHC engine powers the Yamaha XJR400. It uses four BSR30 carburettors to feed the engine with fuel. The high-revving engine relies on a simple air-cooling unit with radiators to dissipate the heat. The sporty character of its powertrain allows the rider to make the most of the high-rpm rev range. The Yamaha XJR400 produces 53 PS of peak power at 11,000 rpm and 35.3 Nm of peak torque at 9,500 rpm. It gets 17-inch alloy wheels and a glossy chrome exhaust muffler. This naked sports bike comes with a round halogen headlight that gives it a timeless classic look. It gets a twin-pod analogue instrument console like the Yamaha FZX750.

Yamaha XJR400 Price in India and Launch Date

The XJR400 was first introduced in the Japanese market in 1993 but currently, this bike is not in production anymore. Yamaha’s prime competitor Honda still sells the CB400 Super Four in certain markets. The brand should revive the XJR400 model in future to compete against the CB400 SF. Sadly, Yamaha has shown no interest in launching a revamped model of this 400cc streetfighter. The last-gen Yamaha XJR400 price in India would have been nearly Rs 3.36 Lakh if it was brought to the Indian shores.

Our Verdict on the Yamaha XJR400

The XJR400 was birthed when the competition in the 400cc naked sports segment was soaring. It came with a simple yet aggressive-looking design. Its four-cylinder engine was tuned to deliver astonishing top-end performance. The later models of this streetfighter were fitted with premium Ohlins shocks and Brembo brakes that further improved its ride quality. The Yamaha XJR400 was the last entrant in the naked 400cc class but it still managed to build an iconic reputation in the biking community.
